Since 2nd May 2001, new Health & Safety Regulations have been signed into
law in Ireland.
Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) (Amendment)
Regulations, 2001 (Amends S.I. No. 44 of 1993) requires employers to ensure that
electrical appliances remain safe for the use of their employees.
SI 188 of 2001 can be viewed or downloaded by clicking here.
The implications for companies and persons responsible for ensuring
compliance with the above statutory instrument are immense and legally binding.
As in all Health & Safety legislation, ignorance of the actual law is no
defence for non-compliance.
